MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — The Mount Airy News reports that Surry County Schools named bus driver Joyce Key Driver of the Year at the fourth annual Bus Drivers Appreciation Banquet held here last week.

Surry County Schools Assistant Superintendent Charles Graham welcomed more than 325 participants to the event and acknowledged the professional job bus drivers do, according to the newspaper.

Transportation Director Rodney Hardy said that Key began driving a school bus 29 years ago while she was Parent Teacher Organization president at Copeland Elementary and has not had an accident. He added that the system was grateful to have her as a part of their team.
