LINCOLN, Neb. — Longtime Nebraska state pupil transportation director Russ Inbody died on March 18 after a long illness.

Inbody, 64, was the Nebraska Department of Education's director of finance and organizational services, a position that included overseeing school transportation matters for the state. He worked for the Department of Education for 37 years.

Inbody was a member of several professional organizations, including the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services and the Nebraska Council of School Administrators (NCSA).

NCSA officials said in a statement that Inbody "was an invaluable resource and support for school districts in his work in school finance, transportation services and negotiating the ever-complicated TEEOSA [Nebraska's Tax Equity and Educational Opportunities Support Act] formula."

Beyond his role as an education administrator, Inbody contributed to students' lives through his involvement in youth sports. For 21 years, he served as a soccer coach at Lincoln High School.
