DALLAS — A group of teachers for a school district here who have also served as longtime school bus drivers have been told they can no longer do both, WFAA reports.
The individuals are employees of Dallas County Schools who were hired by Dallas Independent School District (DISD) to transport children to and from school. They are also teachers for DISD, and according to the news outlet, driving a bus provides a critical second income for the teachers.
However, DISD's superintendent has adopted a new policy stating that drivers and teachers can no longer hold both positions. DISD officials said the policy change comes in part because one of the drivers was recently caught driving while clocked in as a teacher.
Last week, Dallas County Schools handed out memos to those who have both jobs, and they were given 48 hours to decide which position they wanted to keep.
