HOUSTON — Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District is seeking volunteers for its Bus Buddies program, which is designed to help young bus riders find their stops during the first week of school, Community Impact reports.

The program was developed in 2005 by the district’s Partners in Education director, Pam Scott. Volunteers from throughout the school district are asked to assist during the afternoon bus rides. Each volunteer ensures that elementary school students safely disembark the bus at the correct stop during the first three days of the school year.

Karen Mann, Scott’s secretary, told the publication that the Bus Buddies program has helped to reduce students’ stress, and it also provides relief to parents.
