LAKE NORMAN, N.C. — Some students here have drastically shortened their commute by taking a boat to school, Lake Norman News reports.
Scott Huseby, a resident of the Brawley School peninsula on Lake Norman, started by ferrying his three children across the water to SouthLake Christian Academy. He has since expanded the service to other peninsula children who attend the school — and has gotten a bigger boat — for a current total of 19 passengers.
Huseby doesn't charge for the service — he told Lake Norman News that it would be a felony for him to accept monetary compensation without having a certain type of captain's license. But parents have to sign permission slips.
