Houston Independent School District (ISD) was recently named by Government Fleet Magazine and the 100 Best Fleets as having one of the top 100 fleets for 2011.

The awards program recognizes leading fleets from across the country. The top 20 fleets were announced at the Government Fleet Expo & Conference in San Diego on June 8, Government Fleet reports. (SCHOOL BUS FLEET and Government Fleet Magazine are both published by Bobit Business Media.)

Houston ISD and the other top 100 fleets were honored during a special breakfast ceremony and an evening reception co-sponsored by LeasePlan and NJPA.

Mark Swackhamer, senior manager of fleet operations for Houston ISD's transportation services department, represented the district.

Austin (Texas) Independent School District was an honorable mention in this year's program.
