EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. — The East Longmeadow School Department's transportation task force and the school committee have agreed to place a $540 cap on busing fees.

The bus fee will remain at $270 per student, but for families with three or more children, the cap will lead to a reduction in cost, The Republican reports.

The task force was formed after a town meeting in May 2010 to make it easier for families who want to put their kids on the bus, task force member Laura B. Joubert told the news source.

The task force has been meeting regularly during the past school year to discuss bus fees and other transportation issues. A survey of the transportation system found that most families were concerned by the high fee.

The school committee approved the cap at its May 9 meeting. On Monday, it approved the 2011-12 transportation services contract.
