HYDE PARK, N.Y. — Members of the Hyde Park Central School District transportation department hold regular fundraising events to help the community.

Relief driver Donna VanLeuven organizes an annual golf tournament, which last year raised $3,700, according to an article in the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Donations go toward scholarships for local high school graduates and meals and gifts at Thanksgiving and Christmas. The entire department pitches in and comes up with ideas, drivers say. They were even able to help one of their own recently, giving a donation to a staff member they felt needed financial help.

The department will host a bowling tournament in March, and the fourth annual golf tournament is scheduled for May.
