Transfinder Corp. of Schenectady, N.Y., and Atlanta-based Core Education and Consulting Solutions have been selected by the Maine Department of Education (MDOE) to provide a centralized student routing and transportation management system for Maine’s school districts.

Core will manage the project and help develop a Web-enabled platform for the districts to tap into Transfinder’s software solutions. More than 200 public school districts in Maine that serve more than 200,000 students will benefit from the opportunity, the companies said.

"The state is enabling districts to connect to a statewide Web-enabled software solution for their routing and transportation needs at no cost," said Rick Soules, MDOE's transportation director. "This will eliminate the costly and time-consuming efforts by local school units in procuring the same technology from a variety of vendors. It also enables the MDOE to standardize on one solution."

Transfinder is a provider of student transportation management solutions, including routing and scheduling. Core partners with educational communities to provide customized solutions and consulting services.

The companies were awarded the contract following an extensive request-for-proposal process, which was conducted by the MDOE from February to July.
