Jay Jones

Corporate Chaplain, Blue Bird Corp., Fort Valley, Ga.

Chaplain Jay Jones offers chapel services, private counseling and other services for staff members at Blue Bird.

Current job duties?
At Blue Bird, I tend to the needs of the employees and their family members. I lead bi-monthly, non-denominational chapel services for employees who elect to attend. I also provide private counseling to all levels of the organization as well as their families. In addition, I regularly attend funerals and weddings, perform hospital visits and assist in the event of a family crisis. Bottom line: When a Blue Bird staff member needs help, I am there to assist.

Top achievements?
By far, my top achievement is my ministry as a servant of the Lord. I am also a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served for 20 years prior to retirement.

Outside interests?
I am heavily involved in the community. I serve on the board of directors for the local Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Bill Glass Prison Ministry, Flint River Fellowship of Christian Athletes and several other local boards. In addition, I and other Blue Bird employees spend many volunteer hours at the local children’s hospital and Ronald McDonald House. Helping others reach or realize their potential is something I truly enjoy. Golfing and fishing are also passions of mine.

If you could travel anywhere in the world …
I would go to the Holy Lands. I would love to see the places that I read and preach about in the Bible.

Something people would be surprised to learn about you?
While I am very approachable and a team player, I am also a very private person and appreciate and cherish my private time with family.

What do you like most about being involved in the industry?
Parents trust us to build a safe bus to transport their children each day. I value that trust and am proud of the quality buses we build.

The last thing you do before you leave the office at the end of the day?
Each day before I head out, I pray for the company and employees. Once in a while, time permitting, I enjoy standing at our front gate and wishing our employees a good evening as they drive through the gates on their way home.

Born: Gadsden, Ala.
