One of your drivers is accused of sexual harassment by a student on a middle-school route. The driver has no history of similar complaints. The girl who made the complaint is an honor student with no history of misbehavior. How do you handle this situation? Tread carefully The allegation of sexual harassment is a very serious matter and must be thoroughly investigated. Initially, I would discuss it with the driver and ask the principal of the girl’s school to investigate the charges with the girl and with any student witnesses. It is imperative that if any disciplinary action is necessary, that it be taken swiftly after consideration of all the facts. Working with the principal, the HR director and any other involved staff members, we would develop a recommendation for appropriate action. Tom Taylor, Operations Director Williamson (Tenn.) County Schools
