Pontiac School District in Michigan secures grants totaling $21.575 million from the Environmental Protection Agency and President Biden's infrastructure law to replace its diesel school buses with electric school buses. The initiative aims to improve air quality, reduce emissions, and promote sustainable student transportation, signaling a significant step towards environmental stewardship.
The California Energy Commission funding goes to BorgWarner, Fermata Energy, and Lion Electric to supporty a vehicle-to-grid project with bus operator American Transportation.
Since the program launched in 2019, it is among the largest utility-led electric school bus initiatives in the United States, with a fleet of more than 135 electric school buses operating in 25 Virginia school districts.
The North Carolina-based bus manufacturer delivered that bus as part of a larger order to Georgia’s Meriwether County School System.
The company delivered the BEAST electric school bus to Phoenix Elementary School District.
