Birnie Bus Service will start work on a new school transportation contract in Duval County, Fla., in August.

The pact will increase the Rome, N.Y.-based company's fleet by about 221 large buses.

Birnie Bus will transport about 20,000 Duval County students.

Overall, the company has a fleet of 942 school buses and transports 42,000 students daily.

Birnie Bus is ranked No. 12 in SCHOOL BUS FLEET's Top 50 Contractors of 2012, which will appear in the July issue of the magazine.
