ATHENS, Ala. — The Limestone County Schools transportation department showcased its 10 new Thomas Built school buses last week, The News-Courier reports. The manufacturer told SBF that the buses are Saf-T-Liner C2s.

The buses feature air conditioning; staggered seating for more maneuverability; seats that are taller and graffiti-proof; a redesigned driver’s seat; four security cameras; and Wi-Fi capability, according to the newspaper. Additionally, Rusty Bates, the district’s transportation director, told The News-Courier that the buses are “mobile classrooms.”

The district is the first in the state to receive Thomas Built buses with the new seating features and bus body design, George Law Jr., president of Transportation South, the dealer that sells the vehicles, told the newspaper.

The new buses are replacing several outdated vehicles in the fleet and the district will receive state funding to offset the out-of-pocket expense, Superintendent Tom Sisk told The News-Courier.
