National School Bus Safety Week is a great time to promote the exemplary safety record of the school bus industry — and what students, parents and the motoring public can do to contribute to school bus safety.
This week, Oct. 19-23, is National School Bus Safety Week. Most readers of School Bus Fleet already know that, but what about your local communities?
With a nod to the name of a popular 1980s charity single, do they know it’s National School Bus Safety Week?
If you haven’t spread the word in your community, chances are good that they don’t know about this important week in pupil transportation. It’s a great opportunity to promote the exemplary safety record of the school bus industry — and what students, parents and the motoring public can do to contribute to school bus safety.
For example, if illegal passing of school buses is a problem in your area, as it is across the nation, National School Bus Safety Week can be an opportune time to raise awareness about that issue. It may be the type of news angle that your local media outlets would be interested in covering.
National School Bus Safety Week is also a chance to remind students and their parents about the rules for safely boarding and riding the school bus. In fact, the theme of the week this year is "Be smart — be seen. I wait in a safe place!" (For more info on the theme and the related poster contest, see the National Association for Pupil Transportation’s website.)
