A Youngstown, Ohio-based news station reported on a humorous incident not too long ago involving a Western Reserve School District bus, also in Youngstown.

According to WFMJ, “Nanny,” third-grader Jordan Lamp’s pet goat, follows the boy onto his school bus in the morning.

"It always follows me on the bus and hops on. I guess it wants to go to school with us," Lamp told WFMJ.

District officials reportedly took the situation in stride, but ultimately asked that the goat be restrained to make things easier for the bus driver.

This story initially caught my attention because I experienced a similar situation while I was in school. When I was in fifth grade, I attended an elementary school that is located across the street from my parents’ house and on several occasions, our cat and one of our dogs walked out the front door as I left in the morning and proceeded to follow me to school.

They, too, had to be restrained so that I could walk to my teacher’s classroom alone. (Much to my chagrin, by the way — I would have enjoyed bringing them to class with me!)

I don’t come across news stories that describe incidents like the one mentioned above very often, but I would imagine that even though they may not make it into a newspaper, onto the Internet or be reported on television, school bus drivers are involved in a variety of interesting and chuckle-worthy situations fairly regularly.

If your drivers have had experiences like these on the job, I’d like to read about them. Post a comment below or send an e-mail to info@schoolbusfleet.com.

Until next time,
