WASHINGTON, D.C. — Fittingly, the American School Bus Council (ASBC) wrapped up its Love the Bus tour on Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day, in the nation’s capital. The weeklong tour featured events in seven cities beginning in Dallas on Feb. 7.

The Love the Bus campaign promotes awareness of the contributions that school bus drivers make to the safe transportation of schoolchildren. The tour featured driver appreciation events, as well as opportunities for local officials to learn about safety features in school buses and the industry’s remarkable safety record.

Tour stops included Chicago; Philadelphia; Columbus, Ohio; Amsterdam, N.Y.; Greensboro, N.C.; and Memphis, Tenn., in addition to Washington, D.C., and Dallas. The campaign was supplemented with radio appearances by representatives of the ASBC.

The council is composed of the three major pupil transportation associations —the National Association for Pupil Transportation, the National School Transportation Association and the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services — and the three largest school bus manufacturers — Blue Bird Corp., IC Corporation and Thomas Built Buses.
