PTSI unveils curriculum for attendant training

Posted on November 1, 2004

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Pupil Transportation Safety Institute (PTSI) has launched an updated training series that thoroughly explains the duties of the school bus attendant.

The package provides complete instructional materials for teaching the 15-hour program, which involves classroom and on-bus activities.

Included in the bundle are an instructor’s guide, a CD with PowerPoint slides, a sample trainee workbook and the training video “Someone Who Made a Difference.” Trainee workbooks are sold in packs of 10 and 100.

The curriculum is broken down into five modules:

  • Attendant Roles and Responsibilities,

  • Emergency Preparation,

  • Student Loading and Unloading,

  • Children With Special Needs

  • and Student Management and Safe Ridership.

PTSI dedicated the training program to Linda Yenzer, who passed away earlier this year. Yenzer served as transportation director for Hunterdon Central Regional High School in Flemington, N.J., and was also known for developing several school bus safety videos.

To order or find out more about the attendant training curriculum, call PTSI at (800) 836-2210 or visit www.ptsi.org.
