She was initially charged with failing to stop for a school bus — a violation punishable by a fine of up to $2,000 and six demerit points, but ahead of her trial, a plea was entered on her behalf to the lesser charge of disobeying a traffic control signal in her lane.

On Monday afternoon, an 8-year-old boy in Georgia passes away when he is run over by a school bus at a district’s transportation facility.

The driver tells investigators that she felt the brakes fail as she was driving up a steep hill. The bus knocked down a fire hydrant and utility pole before crashing into a car and coming to a stop against a tree on the front lawn of a nearby house.
New fuel purchasing plan could save district $500K

The transportation staff for the North Carolina district put 1.3 million gallons of diesel fuel out to bid in February and accepted a bid price of $2.85 per gallon. The district typically uses 60,000 gallons of diesel fuel per week to operate its buses; officials say that if the state contract price of $3.24 remains at that rate until June 30, the district would see an approximate total savings of half a million dollars this year.
Former bus driver charged for near-collision with train

Christina Wisecarver, who worked for an Ohio district, faces one count of driving across a grade crossing. Last month, she drove her school bus across an intersection as a train approached. Five high school students were on board the bus at the time of the incident.

For the sixth annual contest, students in kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to submit essays of at least 90 words to nominate their favorite school bus drivers. The grand prize winner will receive a laptop computer, a Thomas Built jacket and a Saf-T-Liner C2 school bus lunch box, and the nominated driver will receive a $1,000 Visa gift card.
Under Poway (Calif.) Unified School District’s Flexible Route Driver program, drivers must be available at all times during seven-day periods to provide service for night/overnight field trips during the week and to serve as a substitute driver if a regular-route driver calls in sick.
District to save $100K with new field trip initiatives

Poway (Calif.) Unified School District Director of Transportation Timothy Purvis tells SBF that the district is on track to save this much by the end of the school year through his efforts to assign regular-route bus drivers to transport students during weekday night field trips, and through the Flexible Route Driver program. Under the program, three drivers make themselves available at all times during seven-day periods to work on field trips and serve as substitute drivers.
The team at Delaney Bus Lines in Avonmore, Ontario, wore pink T-shirts on Feb. 23 in support of Pink Shirt Day, an annual, nationwide anti-bullying event.

Delaney Bus Lines employees wear pink T-shirts on Feb. 23 in observance of Pink Shirt Day. The Canadian event originated from an incident several years ago when two students organized a protest to show support for a boy who was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school.

Boy allegedly bullied by special-needs student on bus

The mother of a 9-year-old boy says her son was hospitalized after he was kicked by an older student while riding the bus. She wants the other student to be taken off of the bus, but she says school officials told her that the student cannot be removed because he has special needs.
