New legislation would allow Georgia school districts to refurbish existing units using state funding for purchasing new buses. Renovations would have to be completed by a school bus manufacturer or dealer.
The effort to create a federally-funded program to promote school bus use needs nearly 40 more representatives to sign on. A letter outlining the plan will be sent to U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood next Friday.

Footage from an onboard recorder shows a school bus turning into the path of an oncoming car. The bus driver was charged with homicide by vehicle in the crash, which killed the passenger of the car and injured others.
