Among changes to the state's school transportation equipment specs are requirements for remote-controlled mirrors, fluorescent seat belts for drivers, and fire block upholstery in all seating positions. Lap belts are no longer allowed on new school buses in Iowa, except for use with child seats.
HSM working on ‘next generation’ of school bus seating

In an exclusive interview with SBF, Tony Everett, vice president of transportation solutions at HSM, says that the company is developing a new school bus seat that will be lighter, more durable and more ergonomic. HSM acquires Summit Seating Inc.

Summit Seating is a manufacturer of seating products for transit buses, recreational vehicles, vans and other specialty vehicles for original equipment or aftermarket use. Officials say the acquisition is expected to expand HSM’s footprint and leadership role in the transportation seating market and will immediately grow both the near- and long-term growth opportunities for the HSM Transportation Solutions business unit.

Dan Daniels to join C.E. White Co.

Daniels, who announced last week that he will leave his position as president of Trans Tech Bus to be closer to his family, will serve as vice president of engineering and product development for the school bus seating manufacturer. Officials say the companies will work together over the next 120 days to ensure a smooth transition for incoming Trans Tech President John Phraner and Trans Tech customers.

Thomas Built Buses displays its redesigned Type D unit, the Saf-T-Liner EFX, while Blue Bird displays its Next Generation Propane-Powered Vision school bus.
