Cummins engine veteran Steve Charlton retires

During his more than 20 years with the engine manufacturer, Charlton’s notable efforts included working on early plans for the V-8 light-duty diesel engine and leading the development of heavy-duty engine products to meet the 2007 EPA emissions standards. He is succeeded by Jennifer Rumsey.
Jeff Jones to retire from executive role at Cummins

Jones, who is vice president of Cummins’ North American engine business and marketing communications, will step down on June 30 after 37 years with the company. Amy Boerger will succeed Jones in leadership of Cummins’ North American engine business, overseeing national accounts, field sales and support. Lori Thompson will assume the position of vice president — engine business marketing.
Espar engine pre-heater available in Trans Tech buses

The company’s E-Guardian 5 engine pre-heater is available on the Type A school bus manufacturer’s buses immediately. The E-Guardian 5 is EPA verified and California Air Resources Board approved, and officials say some of the benefits of the system include a warm engine start without plug-ins, reduced engine idling for fuel savings, less engine maintenance and use of the Multi-Max Digital Controller for ease of use.
8.0L PIthon engine to power Thomas Built propane bus

Navistar expects $22M annual savings in engine production move

The IC Bus parent company will move mid-range engine production at its Huntsville, Ala., plant to Melrose Park, Ill. Chief Operating Officer Jack Allen says that Navistar has “too much excess engine manufacturing capacity in North America, and we must take action to reduce our costs and improve the business.”

The first CE Series school buses equipped with the Cummins ISB 6.7-liter engine are released from IC Bus’ Tulsa, Okla., assembly plant. The OEM says that, to date, it has received more than 2,000 orders for CE buses with the Cummins engine.
Jasper offers remanufactured turbochargers

The company is offering a line of remanufactured BorgWarner, Garrett and Holset turbochargers. Officials say that Jasper has more than 100 different stock numbers on hand, including turbos for popular diesel units such as the Ford/International 6.0L, 7.3L Powerstroke, Cummins ISB and Caterpillar engines.
Webasto: Test results show benefits of pre-heated engines

An independent emissions testing lab recently tested the effects of a Webasto coolant heater on the emissions performance of a diesel engine. Emissions data show that the start-up temperature has a significant effect on the engine emissions and overall performance of diesel particulate filters.

The diesel options are the ISB6.7 and ISL9, which feature onboard diagnostics and the Cummins Aftertreatment System, which integrates a diesel particulate filter and selective catalytic reduction. The Cummins Westport ISL G natural gas engine features a passive Three-Way Catalyst aftertreatment system.
New natural gas engine for school buses in the works

Cummins Westport has begun development on the ISB6.7 G, a mid-range 6.7-liter natural gas engine. The new engine, expected to be in production by 2015, will be based on the Cummins ISB6.7 diesel engine and will use Cummins Westport's spark-ignited, stoichiometric cooled exhaust gas recirculation technology.
