The school bus contractor will serve two Nebraska school districts with about 530 vehicles, including more than 400 new propane buses. Company officials say that it will be the nation's largest propane-powered school bus fleet.

STA drivers win 11 trophies at roadeo

Twelve school bus drivers representing the contractor competed in the 57th Annual Southern California Sectional Roadeo this month. Among the awards they received was the team title in the Best Represented category. Trophy winners will compete in the State Championship Roadeo this Sunday.

Regional School District 17 has taken advantage of Student Transportation of America’s stimulus program. The district will receive an initial payment of $830,000 for the purchase of its fleet, which district officials say will free up funding for school facility improvements. STA will also offer positions to all current RSD 17 bus drivers.

STA offers 'stimulus plan' to school districts

The contractor has designated $100 million to help district-owned pupil transportation operations convert to privatized service with the aim of reducing costs so that more money can be spent on education. STA says it will replace older buses, hire local and existing bus drivers, and purchase equipment and supplies from local merchants.
