Blue Bird contributes to Moore tornado recovery

The school bus manufacturer presents a check for $10,000 to the six Moore (Okla.) Public Schools bus drivers who lost their homes during the May 20 tornado. Blue Bird’s Oklahoma dealer, Ross Transportation Inc., contributes $2,500 to Moore tornado victims through the American Red Cross.
Senator to speak at NSTA meeting

Student transportation provider Durham School Services is collecting emergency supplies for the victims of the devastating storm in Oklahoma. Students from Guthrie, Okla., have also brought a school bus stocked with supplies to Moore, which was hit by a tornado that was more than a mile wide.

Under the program approved by the Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority board, students enrolled in Oklahoma City Public Schools’ academies can use the Metro buses at no charge, including for non-school activities. Metro and school buses will work in concert to transport the students.

Clemons tells SBF she hopes the event will inspire other districts in the state to celebrate Love the Bus month.
Former Oklahoma state director begins new job

Randy McLerran starts work this week at National Bus Sales, which offers new, used and reconditioned buses, as well as bus customization services. McLerran, who has 31 years of experience in the industry, will serve as a school transportation specialist and sales representative.

Bill would allow ads on Oklahoma school buses

Under new legislation, school districts could sell advertising space on the exterior of their buses. Districts would be required to give top priority to advertisers that promote manufacturers and businesses that are members of the Made in Oklahoma program. Revenue raised would go into districts’ general funds.
