Kansas district benefits from EDULOG’s solutions

Fort Leavenworth School District, USD #207, faced numerous challenges in transporting students and keeping track of them due to a high student turnover rate, routing changes and budgetary constraints. Officials say that in the two years since EDULOG’s student tracking and routing solutions have been installed, they’ve “never lost a student,” and making changes to routes is “easy.”
Arrests made in fatal crash involving school buses

Two men transporting buses to Mexico are taken into custody on Wednesday and face various charges, including involuntary manslaughter. According to the Kansas State Patrol, a school bus being towed by another bus got a flat tire, so the driver detached the buses and they sat in the roadway, leading to an accident that killed a motorist.
New state director named in Kansas

Keith Dreiling, a former lieutenant with the Kansas Highway Patrol, joins the Kansas State Department of Education as state director for pupil transportation. He replaces industry veteran Larry Bluthardt, who retired last year.

Marilee Mayes retired from the position at the school bus contractor’s Hutchinson, Kan., terminal on Friday after 27 years on the job. Mayes oversaw the student transportation for Hutchinson Unified School District 308, and she now serves the school system as a substitute school bus driver.

She says her plans with the winnings include making car repairs, buying some new clothes and filling her freezer with groceries.

Bluthardt steps down from his post after 24 years as state pupil transportation director for Kansas. He tells SBF that health issues were a key factor in his decision, but he also was frustrated by some developments that he said he feels aren't in the best interests of the state's school bus riders.
