Head of Chinese school sentenced in bus crash

Head of Little Doctor Kindergarten Li Jungang receives seven years in prison for the accident, which killed 19 children and two adults in November. Sixty-four passengers were on board the converted nine-seat freight van when it collided with a truck.
School bus rental firm opens in China

Guangdong Tongan Automobile Rental Service's 16 buses reportedly meet the country's new safety and technical standard for school buses, and the number of buses is expected to grow to 1,000 by the end of the year. The buses are equipped with such features as GPS, emergency escape doors and seat belts.

Electric school buses to be manufactured for China

Smith Electric Vehicles Corp. signs a letter of intent with Wanxiang Group that includes a joint venture investment of up to $75 million to develop, manufacture and commercialize all-electric school buses and commercial vehicles for multiple industries in the country. The vehicles will combine Wanxiang’s EV componentry technologies with Smith’s proprietary platform vehicle designs.

Chinese municipal government to purchase new school buses

The buses, produced by Zhengzhou Yutong Group Co. Ltd., are similar in appearance to the Type C school buses that are built in the U.S. They reportedly feature an enclosed ring structure around the body for impact resistance, and each seat is equipped with a seat belt.
