TRUMBULL, Conn. — The Trumbull Parents of Students with Learning Disabilities (TPSLD) group has named First Student school bus driver David Vargas a winner of its 2010 "Above and Beyond" Award.

Vargas, a special-needs bus driver for Frenchtown Elementary School, was recognized for his exceptional performance in providing transportation to students with learning disabilities.

"David is an outstanding driver who adores his job," First Student Contract Manager Marge Tymula said. "He is dedicated to the students he transports, and we are so pleased that he is being recognized for his service to the community."

The TPSLD annually honors people in the community, such as teachers, coaches, volunteers and parents, who improve the lives of students with learning disabilities. Recipients are recognized for their efforts to help these students lead full lives. This year marks the fourth annual presentation of the "Above and Beyond" Award.

Vargas received his award June 2 at the board of education meeting in Trumbull.
