MCLEAN, Va. — The theme of the 19th National Conference and Exhibition on Transporting Students with Disabilities and Preschoolers will be “Make Lemonade: Creativity Thrives in Tough Times,” according to event sponsor Edupro Group.

The conference and exhibition will be held March 5-10, 2010, at the Doubletree Hotel in Orlando, Fla. Registration workshops will include information presented by Peggy Burns, Mark Hinson, Kathy Furneaux, Michelle Spradlin, Tim Ammon, Jane Dixon, Sue Shutrump, Cheryl Wolf, Kathy Strotmeyer and Charley Kennington.

Breakout sessions will cover the basics of special-needs transportation; the challenging aspects of transporting special-needs passengers; proper seating support and effective occupant restraint; violent behavior and conflict resolution in the workplace; how sensory deficits impact riders; and video training for special-needs drivers.

Moreover, general sessions will cover topics related to the down economy: how to avoid unintended consequences of reducing expenses, and budgetary and attitude adjustments that pupil transporters may need to make. Training sessions on evacuation, wheelchair securement and occupant securement will also be offered.

The conference will also feature an exhibition of products and services.
