MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — The local school district here has been awarded stimulus funding to buy a special-needs bus, and other pupil transportation operations may be able to do the same.
The National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) has developed a report that explains how Michigan City Area Schools obtained the grant and how others can look into obtaining funding.
According to NAPT’s report, some states have been approved to use American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to buy buses that will be used to transport special-needs students.
NAPT encouraged its members to check with state education officials on whether this is an allowable use of stimulus funds in their state. The report also gives tips on applying for a grant.
NAPT members can access the report in the "Members Only" section of the association's Website, www.napt.org.
