PRESCOTT, Ariz. — Prescott Unified School District officials have reconfigured bus routes in response to concerns from parents over the district governing board’s recent decision to cut bus monitors for special-needs students.

According to The Daily Courier, the governing board decided in July to cut the aides in an effort to reduce the district’s expenses.

Parents, however, expressed concern in regard to how the lack of bus aides would impact student safety, and Director of Transportation James Cowan told the newspaper that the district’s superintendent received several requests from parents for their children to have aides.

As a result, the district will run "one bus with an aide for all special-education students" that may require an aide, Cowan told The Daily Courier.

Cowan went on to say that district officials had identified 12 to 15 students who would ride the special-needs bus with an aide.
