MINERAL WELLS, Texas — Special-needs school bus driver Tina Cross was selected by her peers as Mineral Wells Independent School District’s (MWISD) 2009 Bus Driver of the Year.

For the honor, Transportation Director James Maitlen presented her with an award, certificate, jacket and $100.

The driver of the year program is sponsored by the Property Casualty Alliance of Texas (PCAT) and is based on a driver’s leadership, attitude, perseverance, student and parent relationships, and technical skill.

“The student transportation industry enjoys a stellar safety record in large part because of the daily efforts of well-trained and caring school bus drivers,” said PCAT representative Aaron Ramsey of Edwards Risk Management. “We at PCAT wish to recognize those drivers who have made exemplary efforts to provide for the safety of our schoolchildren.”

Cross was also selected as a PCAT statewide recognized driver, also earning her a certificate and $100.
