Minnesota committee honors special-needs drivers, attendants

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — The Minnesota Special Education Transportation Committee, in cooperation with the state Department of Education and the Minnesota Association for Pupil Transportation, sponsors an annual awards program to recognize school bus drivers and bus attendants for their exemplary service to special-needs students.

The 2008 Special Education School Bus Driver Award winners are:

 

  • First place: Sharon Reimers of First Student Inc. (Oakdale, Minn.)
  • Second place: Barb Thomson of First Student (Oakdale, Minn.)
  • Third place: Otis Easley Jr. of First Student (Golden Valley, Minn.)
    The 2008 Special Education Bus Assistant Award winners are:

     

  • First place: Alice Jones of First Student (Oakdale, Minn.)
  • Second place: Deb Hase of Independent School District 196 (Rosemount, Minn.)
  • Third place: Luella Buersken of First Student (Oakdale, Minn.)
    Nominees are evaluated on a demonstration of their concern for students; proper communication with students, parents and school officials; skills developed through their job responsibilities; and their participation in volunteer activities that enable them to better serve students.
