VIDEO: School bus torched by flare

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Maryland State Police have a student in custody who they believe lit a flare on a school bus, causing the bus to burn, ABC 2 News reports.

The incident happened on Monday morning while the bus was on a route. There were 28 students on the bus, and all were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

too bad they can't get the parents to pay for the bus, that's $130k or so they're out of a bus. but thats what insurance is for. the kid should be kicked out of school, s/he could have killed a lot of kids if it wasn't for the cool headed driver. as for the bus..eh just an intertrashinal....

After being a School Bus Driver 30 years and Firefighter for 15 years, I am still amazed how quickly a fire can spread on school buses. The driver did a FANTASTIC job getting the students off safely and parked squarely by the road. this clearly shows professionalism in what could have been a very chaotic situation. Bus manufactures need to step up their efforts on getting more fire proof materials in the buses. It's all about keeping the children safe. This driver is a Hero!! Everyone be SAFE!

In spite of the obvious stress and chaos on the bus, the driver parked it squarely, and got everyone off safely. Very professional.
