BARTOW, Fla. — Armed deputies will ride on Polk County Public Schools buses that transport students to two alternative high schools after two students were caught on video allegedly punching another student, FOX 13 News reports.

Sheriff’s office officials say the move is a temporary measure to help ensure students’ safety until the end of the school year, with the hope for a new safety plan in place by the fall.

Officials for Polk County Public Schools told FOX 13 News that the district is reevaluating how student ridership information is tracked in an effort to prevent future incidents.
