KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A motorist has been accused of driving under the influence (DUI) and other charges in connection with a school bus crash here on Tuesday.
According to the Knox County Sheriff, witnesses said that a Jeep Grand Cherokee rear-ended an SUV, then shot through the median and hit the driver’s side of the school bus at about 4 p.m.
Officers who responded to the scene estimated that there were around 45 students on the bus. Six of the students were injured and were taken to hospitals.
The drivers of the Jeep and the SUV were also taken to a hospital.
The Knox County Sheriff identified the Jeep driver as Keith Green, 44. Green was charged with DUI, following another vehicle too closely, driving while privilege revoked and possession of drug paraphernalia. There was also a hold on him for a DUI in Anderson County.
Police said that Green has a criminal history in Knox County of passing bad checks and traffic violations.
