District preps for winter with safety competition

RENO, Nev. — Bus drivers at Washoe County School District are preparing for winter with a competition, according to a story on ktvn.com.

The district’s transportation department is holding its “Chain Championship” for a second year — drivers compete to be the best and fastest at getting chains on their buses’ tires. The competition is part of the operation’s priority to transport students to and from school during the winter months without incident.

When inclement weather leads to school delays or closures, the district sends a recorded call to the homes of all students and staff affected by the decision.
