ROCHESTER, N.Y. — An online fundraising effort raised more than $290,000 for a bus monitor who was verbally abused by students, CBS/The Associated Press reports.

A kid on board the bus captured the profane taunting of bus monitor Karen Klein on Monday. The video was later posted to YouTube, and it has since gone viral, with more than 2 million hits by Thursday.

A fundraising effort was set up for Klein on the international crowd funding site Indiegogo.com with the goal of raising $5,000 in 30 days to send Klein on a vacation. More than 12,000 people have submitted donations. Klein reportedly told NBC's "Today" show on Thursday that was "amazed" by the support she's received.

What do the parents think of their children on National TV news coverage? Where was the driver when all this was taking place? The driver is ultimately responsible for anything allowed to transpire on board a school bus especially if they just do nothing. ALL bus drivers are trained to maintain conduct codes and polices for whatever school district or company they work for. NO EXCUSES HERE. The driver and monitor are supposed to work together to maintain proper conduct on board the bus and there is the reason a monitor was employed for this bus in the first place. If this is a example of how bus monitors are treated and clearly shows they received no assistance from the driver - maybe the driver did not need a monitor to begin with - the bus needed a new driver instead who should have understood how NOT to allow BULLYING on board the bus the driver operates.

first of all I do feel bad for the bue monitor...but I don't understand why she is allowing this to happen too her. Also why is the bus driver not stoping unruley behavior.I as a school bus driver would not put up with any kind of disrespect to me,bus monitor or other students on my bus.
