New bus camera captures crisp images

Seon Design's CHW high-definition bus camera can capture the license plates of cars that illegally pass a stopped bus across a wide field of view, and when used as a front-facing camera, officials say it allows for a detailed image to assist in accident reconstruction. The camera can be used in conjunction with the company's new MX-HD five-channel DVR.

COQUITLAM, British Columbia — Seon Design has introduced an outdoor IP67-rated, high-definition bus camera called the CHW HD camera.

When combined with Seon's new MX-HD five-channel DVR, the CHW HD camera provides bus operators with the reliability of clear, crisp resolution to keep passengers and drivers safe, according to the company.

“Three times the resolution allows you to see license plates more clearly across a wider field of view," said Peter Simmons, director of marketing. "The camera is a perfect solution for catching stop-arm violators. The CHW used as a front-facing camera allows for a more detailed image to assist in accident reconstruction so that you know exactly what happened.”

“The new Seon HD camera is a great tool for a fleet supervisor to have … it’s just like looking out the window,” added Cliff Berchtold, transportation director of Monroe-Woodbury Central School District in Central Valley, N.Y.

The CHW HD camera features 1280x720 pixel resolution/30 FPS (720p) using progressive scan technology and a 2.5 or 16 millimeter lens for wide-angle or telephoto applications. The camera is housed in a rugged, weatherproof metal housing to withstand harsh conditions, including bus wash. It also includes a 350 degree rotating gimbal to support vertical and angular mounting.

The MX-HD DVR features a 720p HD video channel and four analog DI video channels with audio (each channel records up to 30 FPS). It stores up to 750 GB and is GPS-ready, with features like geo-fencing.
