CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The main suspect in an attack on a school bus earlier this week is in police custody, WBTV reports.

On Monday, four people with red bandanas over their faces jumped out of a white SUV that was blocking the bus. One of them beat on the hood of the bus and smashed a window. A second person — a high school student — attempted to force his way onto the bus by kicking the door to get to the driver.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police told WBTV that the incident stemmed from a false allegation that the bus driver had assaulted students last week, and that investigators believe the people who were attempting to board the bus were doing so out of retaliation.
