Two boys accused of savagely beating bus driver

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — Two boys allegedly beat their school bus driver Friday afternoon after she stopped the bus to discipline them, ABC 57 News reports.

The students, ages 7 and 8, were asked to calm down by bus aide Lucille Buke because they were throwing a lanyard across the bus. When the boys did not comply, driver Shaunda Gilbert stopped the bus to help Buke.

One of the boys became enraged and tried to leave the bus. When Gilbert attempted to stop him, he allegedly shoved her to the ground, jumped on her and grabbed her hair in order to slam her head against the floor. The other boy then joined the beating. Both boys are facing battery misdemeanor charges.

There were two aides so I think one can safely assume that these children are at the very least troubled children with behavioral issues or very possibly special needs children...One aide is 73 years old...one is 19...is it possible that either one or both could not handle the physicalness of the situation? Perhaps one of them was there as a one on one aide and like Concerneddriver stated, there is very possibly a hands off policy...Until you've been on a bus with children like this, you will never know or understand the power they have when they are angry...I feel horrible for this driver...

We have a handsoff policy and are not allowed to touch the students unless it is a life or death situation. Because of the age of e students, the driver and aid were probably caught by surprise when knocked down. There isn't alot of room to maneuver around in a bus so the driver was probably trapped. Have you ever had the opportunity to see a young child in a rage? they are quite strong and it most certainly CAN be such a beating of an adult by a 7 and 8 year old. As sad as this is, I would suggest that we look at the parents and what is causing such anger in a child.

Yeah aint it kinda weird? Why didn't the aide get the boys off the driver? Something is weird here. It's stupid though, generally drivers and aides are afraid of touching a kid, even in defense cos parents and their "omg my little angel won't do that" and sue the hell out of the company and driver.

Having a hard time imagining one 7 or 8 year old being capable of such strength and force against i.e. "savagely beating" an adult. All this before the second one joined in keeping in mind that there is another adult present apparently witnessing it all. Hmmmmmm
