BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — A sinkhole that trapped a school bus carrying 13 children here last week was caused by a water main break, The Pantagraph reports.
The bus sustained at least $5,000 in damage when the pavement caved into a 4-foot-deep hole under the bus’ left rear wheel. Jeff Gordon of Illinois Central School Bus, which provides contracted student transportation service for Bloomington District 87, told the news source that the extent of damage to the district’s bus wasn’t clear, but the rear of the bus was out of alignment with the front by 2 feet.
The children on the bus and the driver were not injured in the incident. City crews patched the water main last Wednesday night.
