GALLATIN, Tenn. — Sumner County Schools bus driver Ricky Graves received a certificate of appreciation last week for his actions to keep the students on his bus safe during a 50-car pileup that occurred en route to school earlier this month, The Tennessean reports.

Graves told the news source that he was on his normal route the morning of Dec. 1 when he saw headlights from a pickup truck coming toward him through thick fog. Graves maneuvered his bus to the right and brought it to a stop.

Graves kept the 14 students on board calm as they watched vehicles crashing around the bus. He then communicated with the district’s transportation department and emergency personnel.
