Woman sentenced for blocking bus, yelling at driver

CHESTERFIELD, Va. — A mother was convicted Monday of disorderly conduct for an incident on May 17 where she blocked a school bus with her car and yelled at the driver, police said.

Shiquita D. Reed was sentenced to 12 months in jail with nine months suspended, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports. Reed was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and stay more than 500 feet away from any stopped school bus for three years. Additionally, she was banned from all Chesterfield County school property for three years.

Reed was seen cursing at the bus driver, telling him that he couldn't keep her daughter off the bus, according to the testimony of Richmond police Cmdr. Sybil El-Amin. The driver, Roosevelt Green, said Reed's daughter had boarded the bus and quickly became involved in a shouting match with another student.

Green said he saw Reed coming and shut the bus door, blocking her from entering the bus, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Reed was convinced to leave by El-Amin, who was motioned to the scene by her son, a rider on the bus.

In June, Reed was sentenced to three years with one year suspended for her actions on May 16, in which she arrived at the same bus stop with a holstered gun and used profanity. Reed told police she had escorted her daughter to the bus stop with a gun because her daughter had been teased by another student, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.
