MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. — Marshall County Schools' transportation department is making safety a top priority at the start of the new school year.

Bus drivers for the district have had to deal with heavy traffic and more safety concerns as the Marcellus shale industry expands, WTRF reports. Transportation Director Beth Bertram told the news source that in the past week two buses have lost mirrors, as has a service truck.

Bertram is working with local drilling companies to increase safety. She also said careless drivers were a concern, and that drivers should drive defensively by being cautious around turns.
