Hersman to serve again as head of NTSB — Deborah Hersman, with her family, is sworn in for a second two-year term as chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Deborah Hersman was sworn in on Thursday for a second two-year stint as chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

Hersman was nominated for the second term by President Obama in June and confirmed by the Senate on Tuesday.

“I am deeply honored to continue serving as chairman of the NTSB,” Hersman said. “I look forward to continuing to work with my fellow board members and the staff to make transportation safer for our citizens.”

Hersman, an NTSB board member since June 2004, has served as the board’s representative at 19 major accidents, including the November 2006 school bus crash in Huntsville, Ala., and the April 2005 collision of a school bus with a trash truck in Arlington, Va.

Her credentials include a CDL with a school bus endorsement. She is also a certified child passenger safety technician.

Hersman's current term as chairman ends on Aug. 3, 2013. She is concurrently serving a second five-year term as board member, which runs through Dec. 31, 2013.
