HOMER, N.Y. — A bus driver from Homer Central School District has implemented a reading contest on her bus to control rowdy behavior.
The team of students that reads the most books at the end of each week gets a prize.
OnnaJean Votra got the idea when she was reading to her child, 9 WSYR reports. Students bring their own books or select one from a bag of books at the front of the bus.
In five months, the students have reportedly read more than 3,000 books on the bus.
At first, Votra provided the books and prizes herself — but now the program is receiving donations.
