RALEIGH, N.C. — A Wake County Public School System bus driver was fired Tuesday after he was charged with causing an accident that damaged several vehicles.

Lamount A. Lynch, 21, was charged with careless and reckless driving, The News & Observer reports. He was traveling 55 mph in a 35 mph zone while on his way to pick up students last Thursday.

According to the police report, Lynch sideswiped three stopped vehicles in the center turn lane of the road that he was traveling on and then crossed into the center lane and hit a stopped vehicle that was heading in the opposite direction. The vehicle he hit was pushed into another vehicle and a tree. Another vehicle was reportedly damaged by debris.

No students were on the bus at the time of the accident.

Lynch was removed from bus duty after the accident, Wake County Public School System spokesman Greg Thomas told The News & Observer. Lynch was then fired on Tuesday.

They never mentioned why he was driving like that. What would make him hit three cars and another stopped car after that? I wonder if he was on something or had an argument with somebody. I use to be a school bus driver years ago and now a mechanic for a transit district. I was doing an inspection under a bus when I heard all kinds of noise and found out another maintainence person had an argument with a manager and he took a bus hit another then several cars and ended up wanting to take the managers car out too. Some of the mechanics were trying to open the door to get the guy out while others trying to shut the vehicle off. Finally, they were able to shut the bus down with the fuel valve switch and get the guy out before police came. Not sure why this story didn't have a conclusion of why he did that and as the first poster put it. He is lucky there were no passengers aboard.

This guy was defiitely an accident waiting to happen. He`s darn lucky that he didn`t have any passengers on-board. I certainly hope he loses at least his bus endorsement if not all driving privilages. Ken
