NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Earlier this week, Metro Nashville Police Department Youth Services detectives charged two teenagers in the shooting of a 17-year-old student who was on a school bus parked outside a high school.
Deondrae Northcutt, 18, and his half-brother, Teddarrius Perry, 19, have each been charged with aggravated assault. In addition, Northcutt has been charged with felony reckless endangerment.
Northcutt told detectives that he and Perry went to the high school to visit friends after dismissal when they recognized Radarious Clay, 18, who they considered to be a gang rival. A physical fight broke out. Northcutt admitted that he fired a gun toward Clay. However, the bullet struck a girl — who was not the intended target — in the arm.
The girl was taken to a medical center, where she was treated and released. According to Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools officials, there were eight other students on the bus at the time of the shooting. No one else was injured.
North Precinct Flex, Patrol and School Resource officers responded to the incident. They apprehended both suspects and recovered two handguns a short time after the shooting.
Marquise Northcutt, Deondrae's brother, was at the scene of the shooting and was taken into custody with his brother. Marquise Northcutt and two other people were interviewed by Youth Services detectives and released.
Gang Unit detectives are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
