YORK, Pa. — The South Eastern School District school board recently hired Red Lion Bus Co. to provide a small bus to serve 18 elementary school students.

The students live off of a road that was deemed by the state to be too hazardous for walking, and it is too narrow for a regular-size school bus to navigate. As a result, for several years, parents either drove their children to school or made other arrangements for transportation, York Daily Record/York Sunday News reports.

The decision to hire Red Lion Bus Co. to provide the bus was made at the suggestion of substitute Superintendent Robert Wildasin. It will cost the district $10,000 for the school year. The state Department of Education will reportedly reimburse the district about 70 percent of the total cost.
