Driver sentenced for DUI in special-needs bus crash

PITTSBURGH — A bus driver from the Moon Area School District was recently sentenced to six to 23 months in jail followed by five years of probation for operating a school bus under the influence of heroin.

John Brady Anderson crashed the vehicle in November 2009 while injecting the drug. The bus was carrying several special-needs students, who were uninjured in the accident.

Anderson pled guilty in September to charges in connection with the crash, including several counts of reckless endangerment and two counts of DUI.

He was sentenced on Dec. 20 by County Common Pleas Judge Edward Borkowski.

The sentence does not fit the crime. This man should have received a much harsher sentence for such a blatant violation & complete disregard for the safety of his students. As is always the case when dealing with the State of PA, instead of imposing harsh punishment on the minority violators such as this man, they will impose several nonsense laws to interfere with the job performance of the majority of clean honest drivers. I wonder if the sentence would have been different if Judge Borkowski's grand son had been on that bus ?

Okay let me get this straight... someone who is charged with the task of SAFELY transporting students; these students are presumably unable to care for themselves being special needs students, and the consequence is six to twenty three months in jail? Is that reasonable? How about this... 10 years for every student on the bus to be served consecutively, and an additional 30 years for good measure. This is shameful and the government should be ashamed of itself. This guy will walk out of prison in 12 months probably, after endangering the lives of students in his charge. This is an outrageous example and proof positive that the government should never be in charge of anything important as they have no clue as to what they are doing.
